FASTWELL’s 254 SMO is a super-alloy austenitic stainless steel developed for use in seawater and other aggressive environments like chloride bearing media.
The UNS S31254 steel is identified by its special characteristics- Excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, PRE = ≥42.5, impact toughness, High resistance to general corrosion, High resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking, Higher strength than conventional austenitic stainless steels and excellent weldability. For certain applications, grade 254 SMO™ has been reported to be a cost-effective substitute for high nickel and titanium alloys.
Forging, upsetting and other operations relating to 254-SMO material can be performed at 982°C - 1149°C (1800°F - 2100°F). We always maintain the temperature to not exceed this range as it would result in scaling and reduction in the workability of the material. To re-attain maximum corrosion resistant properties, we do not perform post-process annealing.
