Inconel Heat Treatment
Heat Treatment Inconel Alloy 600 | Inconel Alloy 600 is not an age hardening alloy; cold working is the only available means of hardening. Softening by annealing begins at about 1600°F (871°C), and is reasonably complete after 10 to 15 minutes of heating at 1800°F (982°C). Above this temperature, grain growth may be objectionable, although very brief heating at 1900°F will cause complete softening without undue grain growth. Since the rate of cooling has no effect on the softening, the material may be water quenched or air cooled. |

Heat Treatment Inconel Alloy 625 | Inconel Alloy 625 has three basic heat treatments: (1) High Solution Anneal - 2000/2200°F (1093/1204°C), air quench or faster. (2) Low Solution Anneal - 1700/1900°F (927/1038°C), air quench or faster. (3) Stress Relieve - 1650°F (899°C), air quench. |

Inconel alloys possess excellent resistance to oxidation and have the ability to maintain its structural integrity in high temperature atmospheres. There are certain Inconel alloys that are used in some applications where there is need of material properties that do not easily succumb to caustic corrosion, or corrosion caused by high purity water, and stress-corrosion cracking. While each variation of ASTM B163 Inconel alloy has unique traits that make it effective in different circumstances, the majority of the alloys are used frequently in the chemical industry.
Heat Treatment applications of Inconel is famously resistant to extreme temperatures, and retains enough tensile strength at high temperature to continue holding moderate loads. This makes Inconel the ideal material for heat treat applications comparing favorably to stainless steels grades.
When it is compared to other stainless steel alloys, a basket made from Inconel won’t lose shape as easily when holding parts through a rigorous heat treat application. Some manufacturing processes result into fast Temperature Changes which may combine high and low temperature processes in rapid succession. Most Inconel alloys retain excellent oxidation resistance at high and low temperatures, allowing a single basket made from Inconel to be used in processes where temperatures vary between near-cryogenic lows and heat treatment highs.
